Earlier this year, GB Lubricants a quality Oil and Lubricants manufacturer based in Gateshead, joined an organisation called the 5% club. This club is a group of employers committed to building a workforce in earn & learn positions (apprenticeships, sponsored students and graduates on formalised training schemes) with their goal being to build a prosperous and skilled nation by inspiring other employers across the country to create more earn & learn job opportunities which enable people to train, retrain and upskill in their roles.
GB Lubricants has already started to implement this into its workforce, with several roles being created that offer career development through training, education and support. Earlier this year, Connick Hope joined the company as a Laboratory Technician Apprentice, a role that was created to help an individual kickstart their career in the science and lubricants industry.
More recently, Thomas Brennan completed his Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Apprenticeship and is now a fully qualified Mechanical Maintenance Technician! He will now be fully integrated into GB Lubricants’ Maintenance Department after all of his hard work over the last 3 years.
GB Lubricants’ Chief Operations Officer, Simon Taylor was delighted with Thomas’ recent achievement. “We are all really pleased with Thomas’ success in completing his Level 3 apprenticeship. Not only did he successfully pass, but he also received a Merit in his practical observation.” Simon continued “GB Lubricants is keen to continue the development of more employees like Thomas in earn-and-learn positions throughout the business, as it not only allows fresh ideas to filter through but it also strengthens the business in key areas.”
Being part of the 5% club means that GB Lubricants is aiming to have 5% of their workforce in Learn & Earn positions within five years of joining the organisation. Over the coming years, it will be interesting to see where the company strengthens next.
