We are sad to report the death of our friend and former colleague, John MacKenzie, who unfortunately fell victim to the COVID-19 virus back in April.
Many of our customers and employees will have known John as he worked for GB Lubricants for an incredible 50 years before his retirement in early 2019.
John was always smartly turned out and had a characteristic ready wit to entertain both customers and colleagues. On a Friday, he would always say how much he was looking forward to Monday and the start of another working week!
John started working for GB Lubricants as a Warehouseman in 1968 at the age of 22. At some point in the 1970s, John booked some holiday and took himself off on a sales course. On his return, he asked his boss (Hugh Bates) if he could have a chance as a Salesman and, from there he never looked back.
Over recent years, John had suffered varying health problems and it was his family’s wish that any donations in his memory be made to the NHS. We have decided to support Newcastle Hospitals NHS Charity who are raising money for NHS staff and patients in Newcastle Upon Tyne. In September, GB Lubricants will be running a fitness challenge for staff to raise money for this great cause. We have also set up a JustGiving link for those wishing to give donations. If you would like to contribute, please click here.
John will be sadly missed by all of us at GB Lubricants.
