Recently GB Lubricants had the privilege of a visit from the UK Governments Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero to help showcase the groundbreaking Gateshead District Energy Scheme. This fantastic innovation from Gateshead Council and The Coal Authority uses renewable heat and electricity through a combination of solar power generation, an innovative 6-megawatt mine water heating system, the largest in the UK, all backed up by 4-megawatt combined heat and power engines..
Managing Director Paul Booth, showed Rt Hon Graham Stuart around GB Lubricants manufacturing site and explained why GB Lubricants were excited to be the first private company to join the Gateshead District Energy Scheme. This system provides green electricity and heat throughout the production process around the Gateshead site.
By connecting to the green energy scheme, GB Lubricants had to make major investment in groundworks, large scale pipework, electrical infrastructure and monitoring systems to ensure that the company utilised the electricity and heat in the most efficient way.
This project is seen as an integral part of GB Lubricants’ long-term strategic plan. The aim is to be at the forefront of low carbon, sustainable manufacturing for lubricants worldwide.
