Over recent years, GB Lubricants has been focused on a key development strategy for the company’s future.
This has seen many capital investments completed around the manufacturing site at Gateshead over recent years. From becoming the first private company to connect to green electricity and mine water heat provided by an award-winning Gateshead District Energy Scheme to the new state-of-the-art Technical Centre.
These updates are just the beginning though, as GB Lubricants continues to design and plan expansion for a prosperous future.
The newest exciting projects that have begun at GB Lubricants are the construction of a new warehouse and maintenance workshop.
This construction is still in its infancy, but it is already beginning to show progress. Recently, the development saw the completion of the warehouse foundations, and deliveries of steel arrived to allow the contractors to start erecting the building’s framework.
As the project progresses, you can start to see the scale of what is being built. Whilst the majority of the warehouse work is currently confined to the rear of the site, the new maintenance workshops are being built next to the base oil tank farm. To keep everything progressing, work has started to be prepared at the front of the site for demolition of the old laboratory building to help make way for more bulk storage options and future plans.
Simon Taylor, GB Lubricants Chief Operations Officer, has led this major project and has been impressed with the speed of the development. He commented, “After two years of careful planning, we have recently broken ground on the next phase of our expansion project with a major new warehouse and maintenance workshop. The additional warehouse building will rise to a height of 10 metres and be capable of housing up to 1,000 pallet spaces. The warehouse helps us to unlock future development and investments by freeing up space in the existing facility, whilst the maintenance workshop ensures our team have the best possible space to continue working to our high health & safety standards by keeping our equipment in good condition. It is exciting times at GB Lubricants and we’re looking forward to being handed the keys to the new buildings towards the end of this year”.
Paul Booth, GB Lubricants Managing Director, explained why this development is so important to the company.
“This latest expansion forms a key part of our long-term strategic investment in infrastructure and sustainability for our Gateshead, UK, site. It is good for our staff, customers, suppliers and the local community and we are proud to be investing in manufacturing for our domestic and global customers and partners.”
