GB Lubricants celebrate International Women’s Day

Here at GB Lubricants, we want to celebrate women in the oil and lubricants industry this International Women’s Day!

Within GB Lubricants, women currently account for a quarter of the workforce. They are in important roles throughout the business ranging from product sales, account management, business administration, transport and logistics, laboratory testing and technical analysis.

We decided to interview a few of the women who are essential to the GB Lubricants team-

Name: Amanda Byrne

What is your Role at GB Lubricants?

Regional Sales & Marketing Manager

How long have you worked at GB Lubricants?

Almost 10 Years!

How do you think the oil and lubricants Industry has changed over this time?

It’s progressed a lot in the last 10 years with new technologies and vehicle manufacturers pushing advancements in the oils and lubricants that GB Lubricants’ produce. The oil & lubricants industry has and always will change, innovate and adapt – it never stops looking for new developments in technology driven by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Synthetic, bio-degradable oils are becoming more widely used, given the necessity for them in the economical, sustainable, eco-friendly world we live in. These advances in oil and lubricant technology, are what makes my job exciting. There is always something new happening and the challenge is to be pioneering. Customers are increasingly interested in focusing on sustainability. They like to know they are doing business with a company that truly cares as much as themselves. We’ve just launched 35% recycled packaging, as a company we listen to our customers’ needs and wants and engaged with them as we always have and always will.

Are there any achievements that you are particularly proud of?

GB Lubricants retaining the EcoVadis Platinum for the second year in a row! Putting us in the top 1% of companies evaluated from our industry worldwide.

What are you looking forward to in the future?

I’m looking forward to continuing the progress GB Lubricants prides itself on. A company that values its female members of staff, giving support, opportunities the Oil and Lubricants industry s for growth and advancement within all sectors of the company. We’re seeing more younger women studying subjects like in maths, science, technologies, and engineering, which is providing a pathway to more roles to be pursued, in the oil and lubricants industry making it  seen less and less as a male dominated industry now.

Name: Bernadette Mills

What is your role within GB Lubricants?

Transport Co-Ordinator

How long have you worked at GB Lubricants?

3 years

How do you think the oil and lubricants industry has changed over this time?

I do believe we have seen more women coming into what previously would have been deemed a man’s role. Especially in the transport sector, with more women drivers, which is great to see.

Have you got any achievements you are particularly proud of?

Last year I passed my Transport Manager CPC qualification

Have you got any goals for the future?

I am looking forward to hopefully progressing within my current role at GB Lubricants. At GB Lubricants we believe it’s important to continue to value and nurture women within the industry, as previously the oil and lubricant industry had been very heavily male dominated, but now more and more women are coming into the industry. So, it is important to make sure that the industry has accessible pathways through apprenticeships, graduate schemes and job training programs, which GB Lubricants continues to offer.
