Ahead of the upcoming ‘World Mental Health Day’ on Tuesday, 10th, October, GB Lubricants has appointed 3 new mental health first aiders. The company has done so acknowledging the importance of the mental health and well-being of its employees, as well as the importance of introducing a support structure to ensure the GB Lubricants team has a platform to talk to someone if they are struggling.
The 3 new mental health first aiders were recruited from different departments across the company to ensure mental health and well-being support is easily accessible to all employees should they feel that it is needed. In addition to this, to improve access to, and promote mental health and well-being support to employees, the company is holding, on World Mental Health Day, drop-in support for all employees with their new mental health first aiders. This is an opportunity to introduce the new team to employees and explain the role of a mental health first aider.
To become fully equipped to recognise, listen, and support any colleagues in need, the new mental health first aiders were trained over a two-day course with St John Ambulance.
When asked why they volunteered to become a fully trained mental health first aider, Laboratory Technician, Beth Burnett explained:
“I chose to put myself forward as a mental health first aider because I am a massive advocate for improving our mental health and wanted to help others as much as possible. It means a lot to me and if I can help even one person with a mental health concern I will be over the moon.”
GB Lubricants’ Managing Director, Paul Booth, added:
“Mental Health is an issue that can affect us all and it is important that we normalise conversations about mental health as a part of everyday working life. I am very proud, and deeply impressed, that our new team of Mental Health First Aiders were prepared to volunteer and put themselves out there to help their fellow colleagues in this way. It’s another way we hope to support our teams needs and help each other”.
