GB Lubricants Successfully Retains Elite Platinum Award For Sustainability

GB Lubricants’ mission to be recognised as an industry leader for sustainability and minimising environmental impact has received a massive boost towards the end of 2024.

The company, which has been blending high-quality oils and lubricants since 1877, has achieved the highest EcoVadis Platinum rating in Sustainability for a second successive year, ensuring GB Lubricants remains in the elite top one per cent of companies that are evaluated from the industry worldwide.

EcoVadis independently audited GB Lubricants for Sustainability and Environment Social Governance (ESG), which included environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement assessments.  GB Lubricants increased their year-on-year score to 83 points, against an industry average of 60 points.

Aiming to achieve net zero carbon manufacturing by 2030, the company’s mission is to be as sustainable as possible in its purchasing of raw materials, manufacture of products and delivery of finished goods as well as its social impact in all aspects of the business.

A series of projects realised during 2023 and early 2024 contributed to GB Lubricants retaining the platinum award. They include minimising waste, and capital investment into new production facilities and infrastructure as well as connecting to the innovative green solar-generated electricity and mine water heat provided by the award-winning Gateshead District Energy Scheme.

In order to retain the EcoVadis Platinum rating, GB Lubricants has had to continually raise the bar. “The boundaries for success get higher each year. Using such a globally respected assessment as EcoVadis, with its rigorous approach to continuous improvement, has really helped drive our sustainability strategy forward” explained Richard Knowles, GB Lubricants H&S and Business Systems Manager.

Paul Booth, GB Lubricants Managing Director added, “The EcoVadis assessment and final result further cements GB Lubricants’ position as the supply partner of choice for customers and potential customers wishing to improve the sustainability of their supply chain. All of our scores improved to achieve the Platinum award for a second successive year on what was already a Gold standard foundation built over many years is especially pleasing and I am delighted for all of the team that this vision is paying off.  But we won’t stop here we are already planning further improvements for 2025 and beyond”
